For Brian Ickler, the next step in transitioning from off-road racing out west to NASCAR’s top level has arrived.

The San Diego native, who competed in a handful for Nationwide and Truck Series races in 2009, will split time with team owner Kyle Busch behind the wheel of the No. 18 Toyota this season in the Truck Series.

Ickler, who filled in for Busch from time to time a year ago – 11 races total – earned the pole position and finished third at Michigan.

As 2010 arrives, Ickler is hoping for more of the same success when he fills in for Busch.

Ickler turned some heads in 2008 in the East Series. Driving with his own equipment, he collected three wins, finished in the top ten of the points standings. In 2009, he competed in a three East races, winning once and finishing second in addition to competing in six ARCA races, finishing in the top five four times.
